‘Extreme Makeover’ house faces foreclosure

26MarFriday Night Lights

I just watched the pilot episode of Friday Night Lights and I’m regretting not watching this show earlier.  I’ve heard for a long time that this was the best show no one watched after Arrested Development went off the air, and after only one episode I completely agree.  I was initially turned off to the show because I had seen the movie and I didn’t particularly like it.  It was an okay movie but nothing special and there are far better football movies out there.  So I figured the TV show would be similar to the movie and that I wouldn’t be thrilled with it.

But the show has gotten lots of “hipster cred” because of the reviews from pop culture magazines and TV shows like Best Week Ever.  I figured I would see what all the fuss was about.  I fired up my web browser and pointed it to hulu.com which is a new video site that NBC/Universal and Fox have developed to host TV shows and movies from both companies.  I watched the pilot and I was sucked in.  I’ve started the second episode and I’m sure I’ll be caught up in no time.

I’ve heard rumors that the show is in danger of being cancelled which would be a shame.  I don’t watch much television anymore because there aren’t that many shows that are smart, well-written, and emotionally satisfying. I hope they bring the show back and if they do, I’ll be watching.

01FebLOST Party and Temptation

Last night we headed out to a LOST party at James and Holly Brown’s house.  It was a great time with our friends watching the season premiere of one of my favorite shows on a big screen.  There were theories flying, LOST trivia, a German visitor, and there was food.  Very tempting food.

I will not lie and say that I was good and ate salad when there were cookies and boneless buffalo wings, because I didn’t.  I broke the diet for one night.  I’m not bothered by it at all because we’ve been doing really good and you need to reward yourself every once in a while.  I’m back on the wagon today and I’m still committed to doing this long term.  Plus, I’m starting to see some results and that’s a good motivator in itself.

I’m currently wearing a pair of jeans that I was not able to wear a month ago.  My clothes are starting to fit better, I have more energy, and I feel good all the time.  I’ve been swimming a lot more and my endurance is getting a lot better.  I’m able to swim longer and longer each time I go out.  When I started, I could barely swim the length of the pool (25 yards) without needing to rest, but I’m swimming sets of 200 yards now before stopping for rest.  I’m hoping to be able to swim 500 yard sets by the end of February.

I’m going to be watching the Super Bowl from home this year, so I won’t be tempted by a huge Super Bowl party spread.  I’ll probably eat some 94% fat free popcorn and drink water, just what you dream of when you think of Super Bowl snack food.

19AprSanjaya finally gone

So the misery is finally over, Sanjaya was voted off of American Idol last night. I get the point that votefortheworst.com and the like were trying to make, but it was long overdue. I was sucked in by his shy audition and I was really rooting for him going to Hollywood. Once the semi-finals started, I started to reverse my opinion of him because he was pretty bland and uninspiring. When it came down to Sanjaya and Sundance to make the top 12, I was sure that it was the end of the line for him. Here we are almost 2 months later and he’s finally out of my life forever.

He seems like a good guy and I don’t wish anything bad for him, but I don’t ever want to see him on television singing again.

14MarThe next American Idol

Melinda Doolittle

I don’t see how anyone can deny Melinda Doolittle right now. She’s in a whole different class from every other singer on the show except LaKisha. She has not had a bad performance yet and I would argue that all of her performances have been great. I have little faith in the American people to actually vote the way that they should and make Melinda the winner, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
