05FebSorry Bears fans…

…but everything I predicted came true. Rex Grossman was terrible and his mistakes left his defense out on the field way too long. I also got really close when it came to calling the score too. I’m very happy for the Colts and Tony Dungy. I loved the trophy presentation last night when Dungy said that it was as important that he and Lovie Smith were Christians as it was that they were black. I respected the guy before, but I flat out love the guy now.

Just wait for the flood of new Peyton Manning commercials now that he’s a Super Bowl champion. I know that a lot of people think that he is annoying and that he does too many commercials. I think his commercials are great and I’m looking forward to another sequel of the commercials where he cheers on normal people doing their jobs. “They’re not booing, their saying ‘Moooovers.’ ” I love that.

03FebGo Colts!

So I will be rooting hard tomorrow for the Indianapolis Colts, and it’s not only because I hate the Chicago Bears with a passion. How can you not root for great people like Tony Dungy and Peyton Manning? There are so many good guys on the Colts that even if I didn’t hate the Bears with the fire of a thousand suns, I would still root for them. What makes the decision even easier is that the Colts are a far better team and the favorite to win. Their offense is one of the best of all times and, despite a changing cast of characters, has remained great for the past few seasons. This past off season the Colts lost their star running back to free agency. They drafted Joseph Addai and gave Dominic Rhodes more carries and ended up with a better running game than they had with Edgerrin James.

The icing on the cake is that I hate the Chicago Bears almost as much as any team in history. The NFL teams I have an affection for (the Lions and Packers) have been long standing rivals with the Bears for decades now. While the lowly Lions haven’t had much success against the Bears …well, um… ever, Brett Favre and the Packers have repeatedly laid the smack down on the Bears for over a decade. So nothing would give me greater pleasure than to see a Colts blowout.

The only problem is that I don’t believe it’s going to be a blowout. The Bears defense is good. Not great, but good. While I think that the Colts will move the ball up and down the field and will have no problem scoring, I don’t think they’ll put up as many points as they did against the Patriots. I said it almost two weeks ago, Colts 27, Bears 17.

Congratulations to the Colts on their Super Bowl win!

22JanColts come back

So my last post mentioned that the Indianapolis Colts were losing 21-3 but somehow they managed to stage a huge comeback and they ended up winning the game 38-34 on a late touchdown by Joseph Addai. This sets up a Chicago Bears / Indianapolis Colts Super Bowl which makes it much easier for me to choose a team to root for. I have never liked the Chicago Bears, including the six years I lived in Chicago. I have always like Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy, and since the Lions haven’t given me much to root for lately I’ve taken to cheering for the Colts as my “Team B.” So I’m definitely pulling for the Colts in this one. Luckily for me, the Colts should win this game because Rex Grossman is a horrible quarterback and will surely make the big mistake when the Bears need him to make a big play.

Super Bowl XLI final score: Colts - 27, Bears 17.
