12DecLily Is Sick

It’s 12:30 in the morning and I should be fast asleep right now.  I am awake and watching the Jungle Book with Lily who was throwing up about an hour ago.  This is one instance where my night owl tendencies worked in our favor.  I was up past my bedtime installing a program on the computer when I heard Lily coughing quite severely in her room.  Shortly after the coughing stopped I could hear her talking to herself, so I peeked my head in to see what she was doing.

I could tell she was repeating one word over and over, but it wasn’t until I got close that I could tell she was saying, “Mess…mess…mess.”  My nose told me that she had vomited and the small amount of light from the night light showed confirmed it.  I knew that I couldn’t handle her and clean up at the same time, so I woke up Cassie and we got to work.

This is our first experience with Lily getting sick at night.  It’s been a challenge because we are both very tired but we have to make sure that she is taken care of before we can sleep.  The hardest part is that she doesn’t know what’s going on.  I think she thought we were mad at first because she usually gets in trouble when she makes a mess.  We kept telling her over and over that it was okay and that we weren’t upset.  She looked scared and it made me feel so sad that I couldn’t explain to her that this happens to everyone.  We prayed to Jesus to help her to feel better, but Lily doesn’t really understand who Jesus is yet and praying is still a novel concept as well.  She’s doing better now and I we’re going to put her back to bed now.

I’ll be calling in to work in the morning because Lily can’t go to daycare when she’s been puking.  I won’t mind the extra day off, but I wish it was under better circumstances.

17MayA lot to talk about

There’s been plenty of things that happened since my last post on Friday. I had a crazy weekend. As I said in my last post, I was lucky enough to get my hands on tickets to the Red Wings last Friday night. The atmosphere in Joe Louis Arena was overwhelming. It was so loud in there my ears were ringing for about 45 minutes after the game ended. It was fun to see the Wings win and it was great to be there with my friends enjoying the game.

I was back downtown on Saturday afternoon to see The Rocket Summer perform at the State Theater. The concert was really fun, with the exception of the crapfest that goes by the name Boys Like Girls. They were the middle band of the concert and they were awful. The Rocket Summer opened and they were great. The only downside of their performance was that they only had 30 minutes to play which was not nearly long enough. Hellogoodbye was the headliner and they were pretty good. I wasn’t really a huge fan of theirs before, but I liked their live show and their music is growing on me. Below is a clip from their show on Saturday.

Sunday was Mother’s Day and the second time Cassie got to celebrate being a mom. We went to the 9 a.m. service at church, which was the first time we had done that in the 3-plus years we’ve been going to Tri-City. We wanted to make sure we beat the big rush in going out to lunch, but we still ended up waiting an hour to eat. Cassie got a card from Lily that was really cute. (I wrote in it with my right hand so it looked like a little kid wrote in it.)

I’ve been sick the past few days with a runny nose and sore throat. I think I caught it from Lily, which makes this 4 or 5 times that she’s gotten me sick. I was not blessed with a tough immune system, so every time she gets a little cough, I end up sick for a week. I need to start taking vitamins and stuff to build up my immunities.

09MayWrecked

I’ve had a rough few days this week. During the night on Sunday night, I started having really painful stomach pains and some “flu-like symptoms.” I toughed it out and went to work anyway hoping that it would get better. It didn’t. I made it to the end of the day at work but went home and went to sleep for several hours. I called in sick for work yesterday because I was just as sick as the day before. It was not a good day. I’m at work today and doing a little better, but I’m still downing Pepto Bismol like it’s Mountain Dew.

30JanI think Cassie poisoned me

I just ate the fine lunch my wife prepared for me and I feel really sick all of a sudden. Maybe Cassie is trying to get rid of me and get her hands on all my money. Since I don’t have any money, I guess that’s not it. Even if I was not poisoned, I still don’t feel very well.

I guess my Barbaro post from yesterday got some people’s attention from the negative comments that were added shortly after I posted. I had to close off comments for a while to keep the haters from flooding my inbox with comments telling me what a mean and hateful person I am. The point I was trying to make was that human lives should always be more important than the lives of animals. I don’t hate animals, and I don’t think that people should treat animals cruelly. But the life of a Sudanese refugee or an unborn child is far more important than that of an animal. I don’t see how that’s a hateful opinion.

21JanSuper Bowl matchup

Going in to today I was picking a Saints/Colts Super Bowl. My picks aren’t going so well to this point. The Saints have already lost to the Bears and the Colts are losing to the Patriots 21-3. Shows you how much I know.

I haven’t felt well all day. I woke up feeling queasy this morning and it’s stayed with me all day. The worst part is that I’ve been really hungry all day and I’ve only had toast and scrambled eggs to eat. And to make matters worse, Cassie came home from church with Taco Bell which is my favorite. I think I’m starting to feel a little better so maybe I can eat some real food soon.
