12JanGreetings from Panera

I’m writing this post from my phone via WiFi at Panera Bread. I love this phone!

No announcement yet on my big news, hopefully I’ll have a good report sometime next week. All I will say is that things are looking good.

That’s it for now, typing is much easier with a keyboard but it’s still a phone after all. We’ll see if I can manage to post-by-phone the next couple of days.

11JanBig day tomorrow

Something big could possibly happen for me tomorrow. I’m not going to go public on the details until I actually know for sure. All I’m going to say is that this has been a bit of a whirlwind week for me and things are happening pretty fast. If you are reading this and you know what’s happening, please don’t write anything. You never know who is reading this blog and divulging details could get me in big trouble.

We’re going to be in Chicago this weekend, so it will be interesting to see if I can manage to keep up with the post-a-day pledge when I’m going to be cut off from the internets. Luckily I have my new phone with built-in WiFi, so maybe I can do some blogging from my phone with it’s built-in qwerty keyboard. Have I done enough bragging yet?

Saturday is a going to be a great day for us too. We finally get to cut the cord with Cingular and be free of their crappy coverage and frequent dropped calls. We’ve had T-Mobile for a couple weeks now and I haven’t had one dropped call yet. I can’t remember the last call for more than 5 minutes that didn’t have one drop with Cingular. Cingular is one major roadblock to my ever owning an iPhone.

10JanGadget geeks dream week

So this week is like a second Christmas for gadget geeks like myself. Not only is the International Consumer Electronics Show going on right now in Las Vegas, but Macworld is going on in San Francisco. This means a flood of new electronics and gadgets for me to drool over.

The biggest news of the week is of course the iPhone. If you haven’t seen what this little wonder can do, stop reading this now and go watch the demos on the Apple website. It is about as close to a perfect all-in-one device as you can get. There are a few flaws (price, locked to Cingular, no 3G data) but all in all it is amazing. It amazes me how Apple can revolutionize the computer industry and the consumer electronics industry while Microsoft takes 5 years to put out a new operating system. Mac OSX is far better and easier to use than any version of Windows, and Apple still manages to develop superior computer hardware which is something Microsoft has never done. Apple doesn’t have a video game system so the Xbox wins by default, but who will argue that Microsoft’s Zune is superior in any way to the iPod?

Another interesting development this week is the announcement of a partnership of TiVo and Comcast cable to put TiVo software in Comcast cable boxes. This would be a really great development for me personally. I have a Comcast cable box that basically sits there and does nothing because I use my TiVo exclusively. The possibility of combining the TiVo software and some of the appealing features of Comcast cable like OnDemand movies makes me very excited. If the price is reasonable, and with the way TiVo has been hiking prices it won’t be hard, I think we may be switching off our dedicated TiVo box sometime later this year.

02JanBack to work

Today is the first real work day I’ve had since December 23rd. I worked last week but GM was shut down so there was no work coming in. Now it’s back to the regular routine and the daily grind. So far it’s been pretty slow today which is fine by me.

It’s been a good holiday season for our family. My parents and my sister were in town the past few days. It’s been a very crowded house with 5 adults and a baby in a 900 square foot apartment, but it’s been really nice to see everyone. We only get to see my parents a couple of times a year, so every time they’re here we try to squeeze a lot of activity in a short period of time.

Cassie and I got new phones on Friday and I’m very excited. First of all, we can finally get a signal in our apartment and are able to talk on the phone without sitting next to the window. I know some people have complained about T-Mobile’s coverage, but it’s working for us. I was lucky enough to get a T-Mobile MDA smartphone. I love it! It’s by far the most expensive phone I’ve ever owned and it is also the best. It has everything, and I really mean everything. Windows Mobile 5.0, WiFi, Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera, QWERTY keyboard, EDGE high speed data, and a touchscreen. I’m sure if you see me in the weeks to come I’ll probably be showing it off to you.

I guess that’s it for now, so far I’m two for two in my post a day quest.

26SepAll I want for Christmas…
