10JanThere is more than the diet

I know I’ve been writing a lot lately about our quest to become much more healthy and fit, but there is more going on with my life than just my diet.

I am constantly amazed at how fortunate I am with the family that God has blessed me with. Cassie is such a wonderful partner and friend, I can’t believe how lucky I am that I get to be with her the rest of my life. I wrote last week about my absent-mindedness when it came to our anniversary, but she hasn’t used my mistake as a club to beat me with. She’s a wonderful, gracious, loving, and sweet woman and an outstanding mom. If you don’t know Cassie that well, I can tell you that you are missing out. She brightens the life of everyone she comes into contact with. We’ve been together for almost ten years now and I am amazed to see the woman she has become. She has grown so much and it is a blessing to me to have been there to watch it.

Now if that wasn’t enough, God has blessed us with the most wonderful child that we could have ever hoped for. When you dream about your children before they are born, you want them to be smart, good natured, happy, and loving. Lily is the child that parents dream about. It’s not that she does no wrong, just spend an hour with her and you’ll see what kind of disaster she leaves in her wake, but she is wonderful. She is so observant. She sees and hears everything that we do and she can imitate it so well.  I love the fact that she can communicate now.   And I’m amazed how I can talk to her and she seems to understand what I’m saying.  I just love being around her, even though there are times when she doesn’t want me around. (Usually after she’s been put in time out.)

I also have an awesome family.  We were lucky to spend a lot of time with my parents and my sister over the holidays and I realized how much I miss them.  And I realized how much I miss my brother, because it wasn’t the same without him there with all of us.

I find I am much happier in my new position at work that I began in November.  I think the change of scenery has been very good for me and I enjoy my new job.  Right now I’m on a long-term assignment at one site that doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon, which is fine with me.  I’m biding my time until a management-level position opens up and then I hope to move up the ladder a bit.

I think the best thing is that I’m happy.  I love my life and I’m thankful for all God has blessed me with.

07AugCassie Hull, Ulitmate Bargain Shopper

There is one thing I appreciate about my beautiful wife Cassie about as much as anything is that she is an amazing bargain shopper. This may not seem like a big deal, but it really is. When you don’t have a lot of extra money every dollar has a higher value, and no one understands that better than Cassie.

Her latest mission has been a war on Comcast Cable. A year ago when we moved into our current apartment we signed up for a special with Comcast that was good for 12 months. Unfortunately for us, the twelve months is over and our cable bill nearly doubled when it came a few days ago. There was no way we could continue paying the increased amount, so Cassie set out to find us the best deal on cable and internet. After speaking with Comcast customer service, she was able to get a deal on digital cable TV, but we would have to pay full price for our cable internet. She downgraded our internet to the “economy” plan which is not significantly faster than dial-up but was the cheapest available. We decided it was time to look elsewhere for our cable and high-speed internet needs.

The best package available in our area was with WOW cable, it was significantly cheaper than Comcast and the price was locked in until 2010. The only problem is that WOW is not available in our apartment complex. WOW also happens to be the only other cable provider available in our city, so we’re stuck, right?

We talked about DSL as an option for our internet, but we currently do not have a home phone line which is a requirement for DSL. We could get a pretty good deal on the internet service, but when you factor in the cost of a home phone line it wasn’t any cheaper.

Not willing to give up just yet, Cassie was looking on the Comcast website at their available specials and noticed that they had a 6-month special for the same cable internet we’ve had for $19.99.

So we ended up with expanded digital cable (which we didn’t have before) and the same cable internet service for basically the same price. All because Cassie’s bargain hunting. Anytime you can get more than you were getting for the same price, that’s a good deal. Plus, we’re kinda sticking it to Comcast which feels good too.

17MayA lot to talk about

There’s been plenty of things that happened since my last post on Friday. I had a crazy weekend. As I said in my last post, I was lucky enough to get my hands on tickets to the Red Wings last Friday night. The atmosphere in Joe Louis Arena was overwhelming. It was so loud in there my ears were ringing for about 45 minutes after the game ended. It was fun to see the Wings win and it was great to be there with my friends enjoying the game.

I was back downtown on Saturday afternoon to see The Rocket Summer perform at the State Theater. The concert was really fun, with the exception of the crapfest that goes by the name Boys Like Girls. They were the middle band of the concert and they were awful. The Rocket Summer opened and they were great. The only downside of their performance was that they only had 30 minutes to play which was not nearly long enough. Hellogoodbye was the headliner and they were pretty good. I wasn’t really a huge fan of theirs before, but I liked their live show and their music is growing on me. Below is a clip from their show on Saturday.

Sunday was Mother’s Day and the second time Cassie got to celebrate being a mom. We went to the 9 a.m. service at church, which was the first time we had done that in the 3-plus years we’ve been going to Tri-City. We wanted to make sure we beat the big rush in going out to lunch, but we still ended up waiting an hour to eat. Cassie got a card from Lily that was really cute. (I wrote in it with my right hand so it looked like a little kid wrote in it.)

I’ve been sick the past few days with a runny nose and sore throat. I think I caught it from Lily, which makes this 4 or 5 times that she’s gotten me sick. I was not blessed with a tough immune system, so every time she gets a little cough, I end up sick for a week. I need to start taking vitamins and stuff to build up my immunities.

01Feb9 Years

Nine years ago today I sat in a pew at church next to a girl I liked and asked her if she wanted to be my girlfriend. A few years later I asked her to be my wife. Today, she is the love of my life and the mother of my child.

Cassie and I have been together for 9 years. It’s amazing to consider that we’ve been together more than 1/3rd of my life.

04Jan3 Years

Yesterday was the third anniversary of my marriage with my wonderful and beautiful wife Cassie. Looking back at it, we’ve had lots of ups and downs these past few years. I’ve had and lost a few jobs and spent quite a bit of time looking for work. We’ve had to live on a pretty tight budget on many occasions and it hasn’t always been easy. Even with all that we have a beautiful daughter and a great life together. She has been able to hold us together and keep us both going through all of the hard times. I can honestly say that I would not be able to survive without her.

I love you Cas. You are the best.
