It would be worth it to check into a super cheap used car. I bought a 1994 Ford Explorer for $1700. It's been great for a couple of years now. And, if I have to put $500 or $1000 into it for repairs at some point, it's ok... better than $300 or $400 every month as a payment. And, even if it totally dies, it's not a big deal... the full purchase of another used car is much cheaper than even one year's of payments toward a new car.
